Flat Tip Extensions: Everything You Need to Know

Make them stare with dreamy hair.

By Alice Dawkins Published Jan 3, 2024

Whether it’s a complete glow-up or a little pick-me-up, meet your perfect match with our flat tip extensions.

Keratin bonded and ultra-sleek, flat tips are a go-to for those who have lustrous lengths on their wish list.

How are flat tip extensions applied?

The keratin tipped extensions are bonded seamlessly into your natural hair using a specialist heated tool. The intricate process means that a whole head of flat tips can take around 3 hours to apply, so prepare to be patient!

As part of our professional range, we highly recommend booking in with your stylist to fit your flat tips for you. Once applied, this style of extension can last up anywhere from 3-5 months.

To keep your hair looking and feeling fabulous, we suggest refreshing your set every 6-8 weeks by getting your bonds reapplied. Milk + Blush flat tips are reusable for multiple refits, so theres no need to splash out on new extensions for each salon visit.

Can I treat my flat tip extensions like my natural hair?

Enjoy all the perks of hair extensions minus the faff and wash your hair with your flat tips in. To ensure that your new locks stay in tip-top condition, we recommend refreshing your hair by washing them just twice a week to prevent your natural oils from weakening the bonds.

Adios, damage. Rework your hair care line up by swapping your products for sulphate-free formulas. Our favourite products are the Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance shampoo and conditioner for nourished lengths. If you’re partial to a pre-wash hair treatment to bump up that hydration, we also love the Olaplex No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment to revive and repair.

Can I brush my hair with flat tip extensions?

Our secret to sleek hair? Trade your bristle brush for our must-have loop brush. Effortlessly glide through your extensions with this super gentle de-tangling brush and keep your hair feeling silky soft and knot-free.

Whats the difference between flat tip and nano tip extensions?

For a 100% stylist-approved mane, both the nano and flat tipped extensions will leave you with a polished finish. However, there are some differences between the two, so which one is right for you?

With a heatless application and a lightweight finish, nano tips are firmly installed into the hair with a small pair of pliers. This style of extension will last you around 6-9 months with regular re-fits every 6-8 weeks.

If you are in need of something extra discreet, flat tips are here to answer your hair prayers. Bonded by fusing the keratin tips to your natural locks, this type of extension lays flush to the head for an super seamless blend. This style of bond will last you around 3-5 months with regular refits every 6-8 weeks.

Can I use heat on my flat tips?

It’s gettin’ hot in here! One of the many benefits of Milk + Blush flat tip extensions is that you can curl and straighten them just like your natural tresses. Made from 100% Remy human hair, our extensions are heat stylable up to a temperature of 185 Celsius/365 Fahrenheit (GHD’s tools are some of our favourites to use!). Beat the heat and spritz over your favourite protective spray before styling and shield your luxe locks from any damage.

If your hair is starting to feel and look a little lack-lustre over time, we got you. A staple on our haircare shelf is our BlueMax Daily Refresher™ Leave-In Silicone Conditioner. Expertly formulated to revive the hair without the cost of an extra salon visit, the Silicone Spritz builds a protective barrier over your mane to keep them looking and feeling fresh until your next appointment.

How many packs do I need?

The amount of packs you need really depends on your desired result, so we would suggest asking your stylist for advice on this.

For a full head, 150g is standard, however, if your hair is thicker or finer, this amount will vary from person to person.

Can I put my hair up with flat tip extensions in?

No style is off limits with flat tip extensions. Whether you’re a beginner or an extension expert, effortlessly blend the bonds into your updo for a style switch up.

The tiny keratin tips can be hidden under ponytails, buns and braids alike, making flat tips a more versatile extension option for those who like to switch up their look.

Are flat tips damaging to your natural hair?

Despite being applied with heat, flat tip extensions are, for the most part, non-damaging to your natural hair.

To ensure your tresses are as healthy as can be, show your hair some love and make sure you are following all the correct aftercare advice provided by your stylist.
