Guide: How to Blend Long Hair Extensions

Thinking of styling our longest hair extensions? Long hair is having a major moment right now thanks to the likes of Kim K and Ariana Grande and the trend doesn’t seem to be going away.

Super long hair extensions can be pretty daunting, though, as there is a lot of hair in the box. But it’s actually way easier to nail this trend than you might think. The only tricky part is getting that killer blend.

That’s why the hair extensions experts at Milk & Blush have put together this helpful guide to blending long extensions...

Which Milk & Blush set would I need to achieve the look?

To rival Kim K, it’s best to go for our longest extensions – which are 24” and come in both our traditional clip-ins and ponytail options.

If you’re petite, though, you might want to try our 20” extensions instead, which are available in our Classic, Seamless and Quad collections. Exactly where the extensions fall on your frame will depend on your height, so it may be worth trying our slightly shorter extensions if you think these will be a better fit.

Once you’ve found your perfect set, it’s time to blend your new extensions with your natural hair. Below are our expert tips to help you achieve an effortless natural look…

  1. Go For A Thicker Set

If you have shorter hair – and you’re trying to blend it with our super long 24” set – you might want to go for our classic extensions, as they provide more volume at the base of the scalp.

Having thicker extensions will make it easier to hide the disconnect, especially if your hair is closer to shoulder length than the ends of the extensions.

  1. Hide Your Real Hair

If you’ve ever tried our Kim K-inspired hair extension hack, you’ll have seen this trick before. Braiding the hair at the nape of the neck is a trick we always use.

For super long extensions, you’re going to need to braid more hair up to get the best blend.

We would recommend braiding as far as possible in rows and clipping the wefts over the top of the braids until they’re about ear level. This will help to get rid of the harsh disconnect between your own hair and the extensions.

  1. Clip The Extensions at an Angle

To create a graduated effect with your extensions, clip the two- and one-clip wefts in at an angle, tilting upwards towards your face.

This helps to soften the lines and create some faux layers for a much better blend.

  1. Straighten Everything

This is the easiest way to get a really good blend, and it’s something you can do with all lengths to really merge them into your own hair.

Straighten each weft together with your hair after you clip in every section. This will help to remove any telltale kinks and give you the best base for styling. It might take a little longer doing it section by section but it’s totally worth it in the end.

  1. Apply Serum

Once you’re done straightening, run some serum over your hair to keep it looking super sleek and smooth any flyaways.

The serum will help to hold your hair in place and add loads of shine, so everything stays blended.

  1. Go For Waves

Our super long extensions look glamorous whether they’re super sleek and straight or styled into soft waves like Kim K.  If you’re struggling to get that totally seamless finish, try out soft waves

  1. Get the Extensions Cut and Styled

Taking your extensions to your stylist means they can cut them in with your own hair. You could ask your stylist to layer the extensions to help graduate the hair, so there isn’t so much of a harsh line between your natural hair and the extensions.
